New Helpers Haven (Fall 2024)

Groups for those new to the mental health profession

Connect with others who can share in the struggles and triumphs.

The mental health field is rewarding and meaningful work. The connections you make with clients. Being able to help clients through some of the toughest moments of their lives. Witnessing their progress and growth. There’s nothing quite like it.

And it can also be some of the most challenging work you’ll do both personally and professionally.

It can be draining. It requires strong boundaries, proper self-care, and a healthy support system.

When you don’t have a healthy support system of others who understand the field and the struggles and triumphs that come with it, it can be very isolating.

Because of all of this, as a mental health professional myself, I continue to see my own therapist and I have participated in various support groups.

And I believe it’s important that everyone in the field do their own internal work and seek help in whatever way works for them - whether that’s individual therapy, support groups, something else, or all of the above.

New Helpers Haven aims to do just that!

New Helpers Haven is for those who are new to the field with groups for interns, training licensees, and newly licensed professionals to:

  • Support and connect with each other

  • Explore topics and unique challenges that commonly come up for new helpers (hello, impostor syndrome!)

  • Share about and build healthy self-care and work-life balance habits

  • Talk about the things you don’t or didn’t talk about in grad school

These groups are a great option to get support from peers who are not connected to your internship, training sites, or grad school classes.

Join me, my intern Lindsay, and a small group of your peers to gain support and connection on your journey to joining our amazing, challenging, rewarding field of work.
